Benchmark Results for Testing Adaptive Finite Element Eigenvalue Procedures Ii (cluster Robust Eigenvector and Eigenvalue Estimates)

As a model benchmark problem for this study we consider a highly singular transmission type eigenvalue problem which we study in detail both analytically as well as numerically. In order to justify our claim of cluster robust and highly accurate approximation of a selected groups of eigenvalues and associated eigenfunctions, we give a new analysis of a class of direct residual eigenspace/vector...

Benchmark Results for Testing Adaptive Finite Element Eigenvalue Procedures

A discontinuous Galerkin method, with hp-adaptivity based on the approximate solution of appropriate dual problems, is employed for highly-accurate eigenvalue computations on a collection of benchmark examples. After demonstrating the effectivity of our computed error estimates on a few well-studied examples, we present results for several examples in which the coefficients of the partial-diffe...

On Eigenvalue and Eigenvector Estimates for Nonnegative Definite Operators

In this article we further develop a perturbation approach to the Rayleigh– Ritz approximations from our earlier work. We both sharpen the estimates and extend the applicability of the theory to nonnegative definite operators . The perturbation argument enables us to solve two problems in one go: We determine which part of the spectrum of the operator is being approximated by the Ritz values an...

Convergence of adaptive finite element methods for eigenvalue problems

In this article we prove convergence of adaptive finite element methods for second order elliptic eigenvalue problems. We consider Lagrange finite elements of any degree and prove convergence for simple as well as multiple eigenvalues under a minimal refinement of marked elements, for all reasonable marking strategies, and starting from any initial triangulation.

Adaptive eigenvalue computation: complexity estimates

This paper is concerned with the design and analysis of a fully adaptive eigenvalue solver for linear symmetric operators. After transforming the original problem into an equivalent one formulated on `2, the space of square summable sequences, the problem becomes sufficiently well conditioned so that a gradient type iteration can be shown to reduce the error by some fixed factor per step. It th...
